The 2026 Ford Maverick is largely a carryover model following its refresh last year, with the primary update being that the EcoBoost engine option can now be paired with front-wheel drive.
The Ford Maverick has one primary competitor which is the Hyundai Santa Cruz, noting that the Santa Cruz has a less traditional design and is not available as a hybrid (yet). Other competitors include the Toyota Tacoma and Chevrolet Colorado; pricing is competitive with those vehicles, with a low starting base price. The 2026 Ford Maverick stands out from rivals with its best-in-class standard hybrid powertrain offering exceptional fuel economy, a lower starting price, and practical utility features.
The Maverick is available in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive as a SuperCrew with a 4.5-foot box. It comes in five trim levels: XL, XLT, Lobo (Standard and High), Lariat, and Tremor. The Maverick has a hybrid powertrain available as standard on the XL, XLT (FWD and AWD) and Lariat trim, it uses a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), producing 162 horsepower. When combined with the electric motor, the system produces an additional 191 horsepower and 155 lb.-ft. of torque. The Lobo and Tremor trim are powered by a 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine producing 250 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. For those seeking more power, a 2.0L EcoBoost turbocharged 4-cylinder engine is also available. The basic XL trim comes with automatic LED headlights and daytime running lights, auto high beams, 17-inch steel wheels, a manual locking tailgate, power door locks, 3 USB ports, a 13.2-inch touchscreen, Ford's SYNC 4 infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity, wireless phone connectivity, a 6-speaker system, rearview camera, front pedestrian detection alert, forward collision mitigation w/left turn assist, and cruise control. A key benefit of the 2026 Maverick is its standard SuperCrew cab, which can seat up to five people. The back seats offer enough headroom and adequate legroom for most adult passengers. The XLT trim adds both luxury and style over the XL with 17-inch aluminum wheels, power mirrors, power locking tailgate, integrated storage, a center rear armrest, premium cloth front and rear seats, 14 beverage holders, a proximity key, push button start, a security system, and a hitch and harness. The Lariat trim is considered the top, most premium trim due to its focus on luxury and comfort, with leatherette seats, ambient lighting, machine finished alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated seats, a power driver seat, and a heated leatherette steering wheel. The Tremor trim is designed for rugged performance and outdoor adventures, with specialized hardware for off-road use. It is based on the XLT, not the Lariat, and adds functional off-road equipment. Standard features include an off-road suspension, selectable terrain modes, an HD oil cooler, a skid plate, a spray-in bed liner, a rail system, two tow hooks, ambient lighting, dual-zone automatic climate control, an 8-speaker sound system, an HD radio, voice activated navigation, adaptive cruise control with traffic stop-go, 4 USB ports, 120V AC power outlets, wireless phone connectivity, surround view cameras, and a heated steering wheel. Safety features include 7 airbags, including driver knee protection, stability and traction control, a rear-view camera, low pressure tire warning system (tire specific). Additional safety equipment includes adaptive cruise control with traffic stop-go, hands-on steering assist/lane centering, automatic curve slowdown, a blind spot information system with Cross-Traffic Alert, and a traffic sign information system with automatic speed limit assist.
