The C-HR is making a comeback in 2026 after being discontinued since 2022. It comes fully redesigned with more aggressive body lines and futuristic appearance, along with a fully electric all-wheel drive powertrain. The electric powertrain also includes regenerative braking technology, including settings that can be adjusted by the driver. The interior reflects the large number of upgrades in terms of both upholstery and technology and really highlights the amount of effort Toyota has put into creating a modern interior and exterior.
Many people remember the sub-compact, quirky gas-powered old C-HR, with an aggressive design and ?unique' proportions, it was destined to be a target of controversy. However, instead of imagining a whole new design, Toyota chose to work with the existing model and revamp both the exterior and interior, as well as adding an all-electric powertrain capable of producing a generous 338 horsepower. Competitors include the Subaru Uncharted with a similar shape and size, the Tesla Model Y, and its close relative, the Toyota bZ.
The Toyota C-HR is available in two trims, the SE and XSE and they both feature an all-wheel drivetrain, powered by the all-new electric powertrain made up of a 77-kW battery that runs through the bottom of the chassis, bringing the center of gravity lower and making the SUV more planted. The battery produces a respectable 338 horsepower and drives the C-HR to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds. The suspension is the standard McPherson Strut type, and, in the rear, there is a multi-link suspension with a stabilizer bar, all tuned specifically for the new body style and powertrain. The very-well priced SE trim comes standard with 18-inch wheels with wheel covers, LED taillamps and LED projector headlamps with auto Hi-Beam and auto on/off, NACS charging port which lets users charge at Tesla charging stations, as well as sporty new exterior touches such as a split roof rear spoiler, black roof rails, black badging, and a unique hammerhead hood design. The interior has been thoroughly refreshed starting with a heated leather steering wheel with eye-catching regenerative braking paddle switches, followed by a SofTex/fabric upholstery combination with 8-way power driver seat with lumbar support and 6-way adjustable front passenger seat. A 14-inch multimedia system lights up the front console and comes with Apple CarPlay and Android auto. Another notable new standard feature is the new dual Qi-compatible wireless phone charger system which should eliminate the need to take turns charging phones between passengers. The XSE adds 20-inch gun metal multi-spoke wheels, puddle lights to the side mirrors, along with memory functionality. 8-way power passenger seat is also added along with an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Safety features include eight airbags, a safe-exit alert, a backup camera with dynamic guidelines, Blind sport monitors with rear cross-traffic alert, and Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which functions as a pre-collision system that includes pedestrian detection, lane tracing assist, Automatic high-beam control, road sign assist, and proactive drive assist.
