Overview

The Toyota Crown can be considered a "near luxury" car. Although it carries the traditional Toyota marque instead of a higher end badge, the Crown still features equivalent if not greater levels of luxury than cars from other upscale makes. The Crown competes against the Nissan Maxima, Volvo S90 and Chrysler 300. This hybrid model is a sporty addition to the Toyota lineup.

Model Highlights

The Toyota Crown comes with one of two basic powertrain configurations. The Crown is powered by a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that produces 184 horsepower with the electric motor the horsepower increases to 236 mated to a CVT transmission. The second powertrain option is a turbocharged 2.4L 4-cylinder engine that produces 264 horsepower or 340 when combined with the electric motors mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Crown comes in four different trim levels: XLE, Limited, Nightshade Edition, and Platinum. Being a fairly luxurious vehicle, the base XLE still comes very nicely equipped. Standard items include 12.3-inch touchscreen, blind spot monitoring system, rear cross-traffic alert system, forward collision braking with pedestrian detection, driver attention alert, traffic sign recognition, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity, Toyota's Entune App Suite, full LED headlights with auto high-beams, LED taillights, heated power exterior mirrors, 19-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, 8-way power heated and cooled front seats, 12.3-inch multi-information display for the driver, radar controlled dynamic cruise control with traffic stop and go, and smart key. The Limited adds a fixed glass sunroof, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, leather seats, driver seat memory, and 11-speaker sound system. The Platinum sits at the top of the lineup with paddle shifters, adaptive suspension, black exterior accents, 21-inch wheels, ambient lighting, surround view cameras, and automated parking sensors.
